David
 I'm on Rovernet because of a life long addiction to old Rovers . As with other addictions it makes no real sense !I started with a
1939 14 Hp and worked my way through a  1947 P2 , Series 1 land rover, and a 10 yr rebuild of a P3 .I drove a P4 110  works hack
around the UK as a young engineer I now have a P6B [ the last of the " proper Rovers ' ?? ] as a sort of 3D mechanical X word
puzzle for my old age .
My original point was that the P6 was unecessarily complicated [ as were some of my previous Rovers , the P3 clutch actuating
mechanism is a piece of inspired lunacy masquerading as superb mechanical engineering design . The P3 hydro mechanical brakes were
not as good as the P2 rod brakes }
 My Volvos were a much simpler, cheaper, and more efficient form of every day transport . Their lack of "sophisticated enginering"
did not result in inferior real life , on the road ,performance and probably increased their reliability .I would happily rebuild
another Volvo 122S, if I could find one in the same basic condition as my P6B. I'd even go rallying with it !
 Cheers
