Also beware that the indicator light switch on the column can short out.  
Mine used to smoke a bit occasionally, never enough to blow the fuse. Then 
one day lots of smoke came out, and the indicators ceased to function. This 
proves what I had been told that in Lucas the Prince of Darkness wiring, 
smoke conducts the electricity, and if all the smoke gets out then they do 
not work anymore.
