Dear paesano, good ideas and splendid cars, both.

I only mean " a triumph of the Rover".
It was only a joke, but not properly a joke if you think they closed in UK two years ago and now a big mass production factory is working in China to produce the same cars.
Incredible.

By the way, I read on Auto D' epoca in spring 2003, if I remember well, that at the end of the fifties rover and triumph were gonna merge, at the time of the Herald.
The article, very complete, was about herald but spoke also about the histoty of the companied in that period.
It had been a very good solution if you think that rover produced saloons and, at that time, triumph produced mainly spiders, coupes, etc. and only little family cars ( e.g. Herald saloon)

An example of production integration in the range of vehicles.

It did not work , according to the author, because triumph still had interests in tractors production ( tractors engines if I remember well) and for this reason rover refused this merge, which could have in some ways confused their main target.

So, instead of integration, we had big competition in saloons market in the seventies between Rover P6 and Triumph Saloon, 2.0 and 2.5, six cylinders and five vitesses cars which costed less and sold very good but were not our beloved rovers!

If you think, Leyland and British Leyland ( and later BMC) grew up for the same reason and with the same spirit.

But maybe it was too big and too late.

I think one day I'll also buy a triumph, maybe not a saloon, extremely rare in Italy, but a good and by us more successful dolomite ( for example 1850 HL ) which was in my opinion a very beautiful and fast car.

Best regards, Gianluca.

Gianluca :
you are confusing me , paesano.

" a rover triumph " ? , they are both wonderful machines , perhaps
you mean a TR8 ? a stag with a rover engine ?
or maybe a TR3 with a V8 i saw a few months ago ?

roverhumorously,
J.P. Scoseria.

I think that Rover 75 and MG will be the most produced car in the
world, and
well sold also in England.
A Rover triumph!

Best regards, Gianluca.

Chinese plant rolls out first MG
*The first Chinese-built MG sports cars have rolled off the production line in the eastern city of Nanjing. *

The manufacturer, state-owned Nanjing Automobile, bought the assets of collapsed UK car firm Rover in 2005.

It plans to produce 200,000 new cars every year and hopes to sell the vehicles around the world.

But many are likely to be sold to the booming domestic market, with demand for luxury vehicles soaring amongst the country's wealthy elite.

In six short months the Chinese have built a massive new factory and installed the robots and assembly lines they bought from the collapsed Rover, reports the BBC's Quentin Sommerville in Nanjing.

And it was with music from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra
and
against a video wall showing shots of Tower Bridge and Buckingham
Palace
that Nanjing Auto launched its two new models.

These are the MG7 saloon and the MG-TF sports car which, General
Manager
Zhang Xin told Reuters news agency, would be priced at between 180,000 and 400,000 yuan ($23,300 - $51,700; £11,800 - £26,300).

The cars have not changed much, right down to the Union flag, which is still displayed proudly on their bodywork.

The company wants to sell the cars not just in China but around the
world.

But with the Chinese car market growing by 10 million new cars every year, Nanjing Auto will likely be selling most of its MGs in showrooms closer to home, our correspondent adds.
