Cars do not rust here on the West coast, as they do in the east. Here in 
Portland, no salt is ever used, the summer air is very dry, and the 
temperatures moderate. Back east, the salt eats old cars. I am constantly 
amazed here at the condition of 50s-80s vehicles, many of which have faded 
paint, but no rust.
