[ROVERNET - UK] P6B- New springs but still leaning slightly...

Thanks to Lex Vern and Paul for your kind advice on my leaning Rover P6B.

Measured from the wheel arch to the garage floor, it is 2cm lower on the
right when viewed from the rear, with new springs fitted.

I am using the car as my daily driver for a week or two, and tomorrow, will
jack it in up the workshop where I work and we'll see about rectifying the
problem.

Assuming the rubber bushes are in place and shims are required, do the shims
have to be of the same diameter as the springs? [I will obviously have an
answer for myself tomorrow but it would be handy to be prepared with
materials.

Kind regards

Peter Mitchell

The rear spring is halfway along the arm from mem, have not measured it, so
can't vouch for exactly, but it is darn close.

None of all the P6B's I have and have had
was exactly straight when measuring the height
of the wheelwells.

I have fitted shortened springs that had the
exact same free length and still the car leans
about half an inch.

The simplest and only way to rectify is to put
the rear of the car on axle stands.
Then place a jack under one suspension arm at a
time. Loosen the shockabsorber and let the jack
down. Now you can put rings under the spring or
above the spring.

Paul is the ratio of springheight and rideheight
(wheelrate) excactly 1:2? When I chopped my springs
3/4 coil front and 1/2 coil rear I made an educated
guess which worked out perfectly. Seen from the side
the car is level.

Lex.

Yes; was a free length check carried out on the springs prior to
install? They should be the same, not 6mm different (which would produce
12 on the car).
