George,
I couldn't agree more.  On the bottom of each digest
message there is an appeal:
"When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is
more specific than "Re: Contents of rovernet
digest..."

Also, when a digest is kept intact for replying, the
message is quite long and so that places an extra
burden on those who pay for telephone dialup or who
have a restricted inbox size.  

A person replying from the digest need only:
* click reply
* now they have the ability to modify or change the
subject heading
* they also can delete most of the digest except the
pertinent few lines for context

We live in hope that the digest users will help us out
..... sigh ......
