I decided to do a quick rebuild in the car.............was going to hone
block and put in new rings , freshen head etc but when i pulled of the valve
cover to my surprise and horror found the top chain guide had snapped off at
the top bolt and was flopping around plus there was metal shavings from the
guide where it had shifted and was rubbing on the bolt housing
.............of course the bottom was also broken ................i can't
believe i was driving at the end of last year and didn't hear or notice
anything and i drive it hard...............luckily i had decided to rebuild
it while doing a 2200 rebuild for my other car............or else it would
have really been a disaster............i pulled the whole motor and gearbox
today to find the starter ring spacer had broken along with the gearbox to
exhaust rubber mount.............Guess i got lucky to get it all at once
LOL.................Has anyone else heard of this happening to their timing
chain guides..................all the Rovers i've had and never seen that
one
