Hi Ben
I doubt this will be of much help but I'll pass it along !! I have a set of rear springs still on the car a P5 Mk1A. Unfortunately I'm not up to removing because of health problems. But if he is really desperate he can have them free, he has to take them off , in fact he could have whats left of the whole car, still has engine trans and rear end. Not much else of value though.
                                         Regards Ben R

I need replacements for the rubber pads that cover the brake pedal and clutch pedal.

Both of mine are wearing out.

Thanks.

This 3500S NADA appears intact. However, potential US buyers will be aware
of the high chances of rust, since Eastern states use salt on the roads in
the winter. Also, Cape Cod is a peninsula in the North Atlantic, with
salt-scented sea breezes that also bring corrosion. Hope someone buys it
though.
Paradoxically, my new home in Oregon is a perfect place for car
preservation: no salt, moderate temperatures, no sun! No rust, and no
discoloration of leather, drying of plastic, etc. If you see a WA or OR car
advertised, and it has been here...it will be like a Cuban car!

Subject: [Rovernet ] Three Rovers in Montreal
Message-ID: <4FF70BF2.3070409@roverclub.org>

Just got off the phone with an old acquaintance in Montreal who has to
dispose of three Rovers -- he wants them to go to good homes rather than
send them to the crusher. They are described as a 1979 V8 with a
5-speed gearbox, a 1979 V8 automatic, and a 1971 (?) 2000TC. One of the
1979 cars is fuel injected, the other has carburettors.

Please contact Paul Parfitt directly at 514-694-6644.

I'd think there would be some interest in the 5-speed, as these are
quite rare in N. America.

Cheers,

Bill Daddis

Hi Folks
I'm at my wits end trying to reinstall the winder mechanism and glass in the driver door of my 1961 Rover P4-100. As you know there is only one small access hole to work in the confined space inside the door. My problem, I'm unable to get the two wheels back on the runners of the glass frame that slide the window up and down. I can get the rear one on easy but not the front one. I have follow the limited instruction in the manual, and then I have tried a variety of methods none of which have worked. Help Help please!!!!
                             Regards Ben (irishrover)

Well Guys
I finally managed to get the window mechanism and glass back into the door. I removed it because the window wound down easy but was very difficult to wind up. I replaced the guides with better ones,I thoroughly cleaned and greased the winder unit. Once everything was back in place the problem is still there! any ideas???? I'm not going to try again until the summer is over as I want to drive the car. I may not try then either it was a nightmare getting it reinstalled. Everything is free and well lubed but no improvement. Anyone have a similar problem???
         Cheers Ben (irishrover)

Hi Ben,
Sounds like the spring inside the wind up has broken, when you
wind the window down it puts tension on the spring to help it wind up.

Hi Ben,
When you had the winder out, did you work it up and down holding one
corner in a vice. If it was ok you could spray some silicone in the tracks.
Talking of track, has some body changed them before you got the car and put
3/16" track instead of 1/4" as I think the glass thickness on the earlier
Rover's was 1/4"
I know my P3 is.

Barry

Hi Barry
Yes I did the vice test and it work fine, I even left it to soak for a couple of days in diesel oil. then I thoroughly lubed everything. The glass and the channels could be where the problem is. The frame at the bottom of the glass was badly rusted so used another glass from a parts car. I also used different guide channels, use a dab of petroleum jelly in the channels. I probably didn't look too closely at those parts so could be a difference there? However, nothing changed in the operation, it was easy down and hard to wind up before, and it still is now??The mystery continues! Not going to tear it down again until the fall when I take the car off the road for the winter. Many thanks for your valuable advice.
                Regards Ben

Ben, get some silicone spray and spray the vertical channels where the felt is. Roll the window up and down and see of that makes a difference. Sounds like the window is cocking in the channels and wedging itself in. Not a problem coming down as it won't cock going in the downward direction. Good luck.

roland, Roverless, but still here. :-)

Good to hear from you Roland I guess once you have owned a Rover you will always be a Rover lover. I did lube the channels, even left them loose and move the glass up and down, but the problem persisted. I going to leave it for now I want to drive the car while the weather is good.
      Cheers Ben

I believed to have had a bad or at least leaking water pump on my car...I removed the pump but in the process 4 of the smaller bolts broke off at the head...leaving me with 4 1" long studs to remove...what is the best method to do this ? ...torch and heat the aluminium around the bolt then use vice grips to attempt to remove them ?? or cut them off flush and use an easy out ? ...open for ideas .. Dennis,

I am far from an expert on these matters, but with 1" of stud, I would consider double-nutting them.

Also, John Twist recently posted a video about unsticking frozen brake calipers and he pointed out that heat is for separating similar metals; to separate dissimilar metals (what you have), you need to quench (not easily accomplished here, I imagine)

I think I'd try the heat method. Drilling a steel bolt in an alloy
casting can be a bit dicey, especially if access is restricted, and the
small easy-out runs the risk of snapping, just making things worse. You
might try some penetrant around the studs -- I seem to recall they get a
lot of white corrosion on them. Also, a bit of gentle walloping on the
end of the "studs" might help to loosen them.

Good luck!

 Hello Dennis,
I have been subscribed to the list for quite a while now, but I am a bit of
a lurker.
I don't post as it seems I know little in comparison to some of you & my
Rover 820SLi is nearly dead now!
Having been a Rover apprentice I am quite attached to the brand.

Anyway to your problem, I am guessing the studs are 5/16"?
In which case get a 3/8" or 7/16" nut. Whichever will slip easily over the
stud.
Weld this to the end of the stud.
Once this has cooled a little so that it will not catch fire, be careful,
your shout, spray releasing oil onto the thread into the Ali head.
Take suitable precautions when welding and spraying the releasing oil onto
the hot parts!
Then undo the stud using the nut, working it back and fore like tapping a
thread.
Loads of releasing oil.
If the nut breaks off, start again, welding another nut on.
Be patient.
It will come out.
I've done it dozens of times and never failed with broken bolts in steel,
cast iron, or aluminium.
Even, those below the surface especially in Ali.
I'll try to monitor the forum posts for the next few days, if you want any
more info please ask.
I would never cut them flush and try an "easyout" IMHO they are not
correctly named!!!

BTW, I "play" with cars, & work on the tools as an Engineer for a day job on
machinery etc., this method has earned me some money over the years!!!

HTH,
Paul

Hi Roverneters

I have sent my '69 Rover 2000TC to a new home and I have lots of parts I need to find homes for. If you are in need of parts contact me off-line @ wfritz at mindspring.com with your "bucket list". I'm in Atlanta.

Tx paul...I have a welder here so it sure won't hurt to try your method ...the weld heat may be enough to break them free with the penetrating oil ..I am glad I removed the rad already as it would be a lot harder to do otherwise. Regards Dennis

British Rover,

The 802 SLi I have is very similar to the white Stirling on your website.

It is a 1990 vehicle, but in the UK!

South Wales to be more precise.

In the UK, IIRC the Stirling was the top spec 800 series then there was the
SLi, I & base models.

Mine is black with a tan interior, climate control, all electric, manual.

The sad thing about my 820 is that it was in very good nick when it was
parked up, but has deteriorated through standing.

The tank mounted fuel pump has gone, and it has some rust, but the annoying
thing was when we got is started to move it, we did a temp repair on the
pump, it ran as sweet as a watch, neither had the brakes or clutch seized.

I just now need the room and don't have the time or funds to get her back on
the road.

Paul

Here is something relating to this that I saved from the Rovernet many
years ago:

(quote)

      Rover waterpumps

These numbers are thanks to Duane Kennard:

Here are TRW #s for the water pumps that fit P6B & SD1:

*For P6B:*
TRW # FP 1318 - Short nose, for Buick 300; 340. Around $50 new
GMB # 130-1420
The GMB is genuine Japanese mfg. and the casting is even nicer than
TRW's, (new units, not rebuilt) and even less costly at about $40.

*For SD1:*
TRW # FP 1448 - Long nose, for '70s Buick V6 & V8s. $30 new

Rebuilt units are even less money. The short nose one goes for $16 from
a local parts house.

All these pumps have all water outlets in the right places for the Rover
engine. Don't try to use the one for the 215 Buick; it doesn't.
They are easily found at any parts house in the US, and are very
inexpensive. Any parts house can cross reference the TRW #. These pumps
come with a 4 bolt fan & pulley mounting flange, & I use a junk yard
located pulley from either an old Ford or Buick. (I've used both) If a
viscous "fan clutch" is wanted, it may be possible to swap the 4 bolt
flange for the Rover drive flange, as I think the shaft is the same OD.
I prefer to use a "flex fan" with the 4 bolt flange.
/Duane/

(/quote)

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Hi Folks
At the recent British car show held in Windsor Nova Scotia there was a P3 for sale. The for sale sign reads $5.500 OBO Cdn. Tel 902-792-0185. I have photos if anyone is interested just email me direct at irishrover1 at live.com I haven't seen the car but know it was sold to present owner about a year ago. I heard thru grape vine it might have a rusty chassis. It looks okay in the pics but was on a trailer indicating its not running. Please remember I'm just the messenger!!!!!!!

Hi Barry
I can't help with the first question but regarding the P3 there is a P3 Sports (two side window)for sale in Nova Scotia. The asking price was $5000, looks good but apparently has a very badly rusted underside. I haven't seen the car but have a photos if interested.
                      Cheers Ben (irishrover)

Hi Ben,
I did pass this to my friend Wayne when you first posted it.
He wants to join Rovernet and with Eric gone I have no idea who to contact.

Here is a link to an interesting Rover 2000 TC on craigslist:

http://hickory.craigslist.org/cto/3123517619.html

If you look closely it has electric windows, NADA 3500S wheel trim, and the wide chrome strip. Were electric windows ever offered as an option on a 4 cylinder car? I was under the impression that it was not an available option.

I know its rare, only 222 Series II TC's were sold over here, but $29000 seems a little pricey to me.

James.

Hi Roverneters,

I have numerous Rover P6 parts that I intend to dispose of soon. I have 4 good doors (1 each), a bonnet, a boot lid, 2 Rostyle wheels, starters, water pumps, carbs(several pair), an engine, radiator, AC brkts, etc., etc. Let me hear from interested parties soon as they are in the way and are candidates for the scrap metal yard. They are located in Atlanta, GA. Reply to me offline - wfritz at mindspring.com

Cheers To All,

** CRAIGSLIST ADVISORY --- AVOID SCAMS BY DEALING LOCALLY
** Avoid: wiring money, cross-border deals, work-at-home
** Beware: cashier checks, money orders, escrow, shipping

I used to have one of these several years ago. My father had one too back in England back in the 70's. I'd love to have another one but with 17 cars, I'm in the same boat as you. My car was bought by a fellow called Kent Kinnard who is active on the Rover forum and lives in Texas. You may wish to try to locate him.

Good luck with the sale.

With best regards

Al

I've struck out finding leaf springs in the U.S. for my P5, and can't
afford new ones because of the cost of shipping from England. Plan B is to
have a local shop try to resurrect my old ones, so I'm looking for the
front bushings. Pierre is always my first choice, and he has them (and the
springs, in case someone else needs them), but if I can get them more
quickly while the local spring shop is paying attention, I'd like to, so
please let me know of anywhere in North America that might have the
bushings.

Thanks, Gordon.
