Hi,
Dirk has updated his website for his Rover America 2011 from June 2 to June 5.
You can register online or print out a paper registration form.
All the details are located on his website.
There are exciting new features shown on the program.

Many Rover owners drive their Rovers from both Canada and many states in the
USA.
Some Rover enthusiasts fly in from points in the USA, Canada, and the UK.
Linda and I are flying to the event fro Vancouver.
It's well worth the effort!

Consider attending the largest Rover car show in North America from June 2 to 5
near Boston, Mass.

As I look out the window tonight, the falling snow adds to the four
and a half feet on the front lawn.
My Rover is firmly ensconced in hibernation, with boxes of spares
parts at his side, and new panels above him in the rafters of the
garage.
My oil spattered "mechanics copy" workshop manual, resplendent in its
sheen of greasy fingers and slowly yellowing paper yearns for a flip
of a page, giving a small hint of what's in store for the coming year.
In my case, leaking 4 speed gearbox selector shaft seals will be dealt
as a priority. Rolling restoration jobs I have planned include
removing and reapplying the undercoating on the bottom of the car,
heater removal with repair of fan and foam seals, dent removal,
replacing several panels, and, if time allows, cleaning and re-
coloring the vinyl interior.
Sounds like it could be a busy Summer!
So, what jobs do you other Rover owners have planned for this year?

To all the rover blokes in UK.

I will be over in blighty for summer Hols from 26 May till 25 June. What
car events do we have around that time that you would recommend? Perhaps
ones that have a leaning towards Rovers.

Oh jeez(1) put the newly redone head back on. Put the engine back in the
car after rebuilding the steering box and installing the rebuilt heater
box. Then replacing the de-dion tube seals and giving the brake system a
once over. (2) blah blah

Anyone needing a 1980 SD-1 parts car, time is of the essence. If you
live near Decataur/Atlanta Ga -was on Craigslist. Lady wants $300,
probably less if you show up in the next couple of days. Lot was
supposed to be cleared by tomorrow, with all the english cars going to
the crusher, dang I hate that.
No motor or transmission, was used in MGB conversion,,totally a parts
car. Guess we can't save th Whale..but here's the ladys name/must be
bank property now, closed down British Vintage car parts place.

If contacted for pick-up, she said there maybe could be a 10 day grace
period from tomorrows 3/11 date.

Well chaps I guess someone creative juices got the better of them. I like to see a bit of creativity but more in keeping with the cars origins. I dont mind the odd hot rod or two admiring the engineering in getting an old car back on the road and stuffing it full of V8 muscle. I do like the cars in a magazine I get from UK called Retro Cars, some of them are unbelievable, none of them are OTT and some are just the same nice cars with better running gear.

Unfortunately there is nothing nice about this car, the guy does have some skill to change it to a pick up or Ute. What for though is beyond me. Why change a perfectly good sedan into??. well it?s just sort of crap?.

Wonder if we can set up some sort of society for the prevention of cruelty to cars?.??

Den Gallacher.

Crap?..well maybe so to some conventional purists...but you have to
admit, it is exceptional, and remarkably creative..and don't we all
wish we had novel four-wheel drive at times?
I give the conversion Chap two thumbs up...

So, let's have some FUN input about this Rover Guys, express your

Beauty may indeed be in the eye of the beholder, but I suspect in this case, this particular 'eye' is more suited to the aphorism "In the land of the blind, the one-eye man is king".

Hi Roverfolks
I'm looking for a pair of front bumper overriders to fit an early P4 model, the type that fit on each side of the central license plate piece. Not sure when the bumperettes were changed but anything back from approx 1956 should fit.
                                Cheers Ben (irishrover)

Dennis.
Here's a good one, in my small collection, I have an 827 White
Sterling, White Mag Wheels, inwhich I have re-badged "ROVER", giving
it back its rightful birth name,,picture this...Roving down th Highway
with Three White American Eskimo Spitz aboard, now THAT draws the
attention, and a total chick magnet!...I'd say, I guess that
"Everything's Gone to th Dogs"..lol. Oh Yeah..the license plate says
"WHITEDOG".

By th Way the multi dogs were never intended..guess I missed the
lecture about "Planned Parenthood"!! But if Ur going to consider a
pet, I believer RESCUE should be a first Choice (Smile).

Someone took pics..wonder if it will end up on th cover of Rollin Stone..lol?
now play with this one Rover Guys!!

If you get stuck Ben give me a shout as I have a pair that will need re
chroming. Postage from Perth West Oz is not that costly but is an extra
cost. Have a search around and as said if nothing cheaper closer to home
give me a nudge.
Den.

There is a good chance we've got some from parts cars stripped years ago; I haven't looked at them for a long time, but they've been stored high and dry.

But we're in Florida for another month and won't be back in Central New York where they are for another month.

Other parts '52 and '53 vintage P4, too.

Hank

Hi Ben...I wrote you a letter asking about parts about 30 years ago. I still have your reply.Things have gotten faster since then. Good to see you are still "roving". Do you have much for p4 parts? I've a 1959 rover that I stuck in a barn a long time ago and now am beginning some of the restoration. Since I'm in New Brunswick and I believe you are on the Island, you would have to be the closest Rover person. There can't be a lot of Rover parts kicking around this part of Canada would there? I am only needing the things that?are missing, outside trim mostly it seems so far.
sincerely Pete Prosser

Subject: [Rovernet ] Rovernet message size reminder
Message-ID: <431978.86952.qm@web34301.mail.mud.yahoo.com>

Hi, Rovernetters;
This is just a reminder that Rovernet messages are restricted to a size of 40
Kb.
This means that a subscriber can prepare a new Plain Text message and send it
off. There may still be space for a reply or two.
However, an extreme multiple replied message may get to be oversized and will
not be delivered (protection to those with limited bandwidth). This means you
won't see your message.

Likewise, a message that a subscriber forwards that originally had pictures or
another kind of attachment. In this case not only is the size too large but did
you know that JPEG messages can contain malware secreted in code within the
graphic?

In conclusion, if your Rovernet message does not get through, it may fall
outside the server's parameters.

Eric

Hello Gianluca,

First I would love to have this ROVER It is a 1933 to 34 Meteor. It is extremely rare in this body style only 3 are known to exist. I have one see www.roveramerica.com and there are 2 in the UK. and mine is the only running one. If the car is for sale I would buy it and have it shipped to the USA.

Thanks for finding the car hopefully someone will preserve it.

By the way have you considered a trip to the USA for vacation this summer? June 2nd through the 5th would be an excellent time to come to the USA and attend the RoveAmerica 11. All your Rover friends are coming...

All the best
Dirk

I know it's been around before but still good for a laugh.

  Tools Explained

DRILL PRESS: A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat
metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and
flings your beer across the room, denting the freshly-painted project
which you had carefully set in the corner where nothing could get to it.

WIRE WHEEL: Cleans paint off bolts and then throws them somewhere under
the workbench with the speed of light. Also removes fingerprints and
hard-earned calluses from fingers in about the time it takes you to say,
'Oh sh--!'

SKILL SAW: A portable cutting tool used to make studs too short.

PLIERS: Used to round off bolt heads. Sometimes used in the creation of
blood-blisters.

BELT SANDER: An electric sanding tool commonly used to convert minor
touch-up jobs into major refinishing jobs.

HACKSAW: One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board
principle... It transforms human energy into a crooked, unpredictable
motion, and the more you attempt to influence its course, the more
dismal your future becomes.

VISE-GRIPS: Generally used after pliers to completely round off bolt
heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer
intense welding heat to the palm of your hand.

OXYACETYLENE TORCH: Used almost entirely for lighting various flammable
objects in your shop on fire. Also handy for igniting the grease inside
the wheel hub out of which you want to remove a bearing race.

TABLE SAW: A large stationary power tool commonly used to launch wood
projectiles for testing wall integrity.

HYDRAULIC FLOOR JACK: Used for lowering an automobile to the ground
after you have installed your new brake shoes, trapping the jack handle
firmly under the bumper.

BAND SAW: A large stationary power saw primarily used by most shops to
cut good aluminum sheet into smaller pieces that more easily fit into
the trash can after you cut on the inside of the line instead of the
outside edge.

TWO-TON ENGINE HOIST: A tool for testing the maximum tensile strength
of everything you forgot to disconnect.

PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER: Normally used to stab the vacuum seals under lids
or for opening old-style paper-and-tin oil cans and splashing oil on
your shirt; but can also be used, as the name implies, to strip out
Phillips screw heads.

STRAIGHT SCREWDRIVER: A tool for opening paint cans. Sometimes used to
convert common slotted screws into non-removable screws and butchering
your palms.

PRY BAR: A tool used to crumple the metal surrounding that clip or
bracket you needed to remove in order to replace a 50 cent part.

HOSE CUTTER: A tool used to make hoses too short.

HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is
used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts
adjacent the object we are trying to hit.

UTILITY KNIFE: Used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard
cartons delivered to your front door; works particularly well on
contents such as seats, vinyl records, liquids in plastic bottles,
collector magazines, refund checks, and rubber or plastic parts.
Especially useful for slicing work clothes, but only while in use.

SON-OF-A-BITCH TOOL: (A personal favorite!!) Any handy tool that you
grab and throw across the garage while yelling 'Son of a BITCH!' at the
top of your lungs. It is also, most often, the next tool that you will
need.

I'm happy to be able to credit this piece to the great Peter Egan. This was his April 1996 column in Road & Track magazine; over the years, folks who've sent it on its way around the Internet haven't been able to resist "improving" it, but as far as I'm concerned, it was perfect as written. Message-ID: <4D949100.6040108@rymes.com>

Hello to the list! I am currently pursuing a P5 Mk3 and I was wondering
if anyone has any useful suggestions for items to look for.

I have owned/own a number of British cars, so I know that I need to
watch out for:

1.) Rust
2.) Rust
3.) Rust
4.) Oxidized Steel
5.) Any inclination to think I can rescue a project car and not end up
upside-down financially.

To what else should I be paying particularly close attention?

Tom
