I think "Ben" worked with a british leyland dealership back then ...perhaps 
he would be someone who could shed a little light on the subject....first 
hand knowledge is always better than speculation...lol

Interesting that you say that Bill.........I just looked at some old slides 
of my Rovers back in the 70's and my fathers 3500S..........Low and behold 
his 3500S has black c pillars..........So in the interest of 
debate.........I'll suggest that these pillars if not a direct factory 
option,  were maybe a dealer installed item............Dads car was new (OLD 
,being a 1971 that he bought new in 72) from the dealer
