if the capacitor is shorted , yes , you cannot start the car , but you 
can remove the capacitor and the car will run , although the points 
won't last much.

so , take a capacitor   and a set of points , a distributor cap , and 
maybe a coil ...   and whatever your past experience tells you to ....

( i had once a punctured SU float on my TR2 )
an emergency electric pump can also come handy .

I would add (for those with a conventional system)....carry the 
capacitor as
well.  When the capacitor fails, you get no warning.  You can't start 
the car.
