[ROVERNET - UK] Brake question

Hello All,

My son's 69 SC 2000 appears to be having a brake problem. The car is a dual
circuit system I have replaced the front pads and the rears were replaced by
the precious owner and they put entirely NEW rear calipers on. I have bled
the system and the pedal is right up top and stiff. However the car just
does not seem stop well. No matter how hard I push the pedal it will not
lock up the brakes like my TC. Could this be sticking servos? I have good
vacuum to them.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks
Dirk

Hello Gents. I'm stuck.

Want to repack my front wheel bearings. How in the heck do you get the cover
off to expose the nut to remove the rotor assembly and bearing? There's no
place to grab it or pry it off. The manual just says "remove hub."

That's odd, there should be a flange at the base of the dust cap.

If it really is flush, brute force is a large pair of pliers and
wiggle it off, the less direct approach a thin blade screwdriver
wedged in and twisted to slowly work it off.

..But Patrick...can you please tell me where on that car is there anything
but standard sizes used ?? I have had several P6B cars and I honestly don't
recall anything other than our old standard wrenches being required...there
may be something on a P6b that is different but I have not found
it....please let me know where to look...

Brook
I haven't started on the P6B , yet . I was just enquiring which set of
wrenches I would need most .I'm happy most of the car is
built with American spec nuts and bolts The electrics will surely be BA
sizes? . Rover and Jaguar loved 3 BA nut and bolts , which
are very difficult to find . Given Birmingham bloody mindedness I'm sure I
will find some obscure parts are held on with BSF bolts
or even worse BS whitworth threads
A friend at University had a summer job in Vickers ship yard building the
original Pand O liner Oriana . He found the bow section
was built using Whitworth thread forms , the midships used BSF . The
turbines used AmericanUNF bolts and the generators were built
using metric bolts . His job was to hump a universal tool box around the
hull and engine room !!
 Cheers
 Patrick

SU Carbs parts and some Smiths stuff will be BA threads and heads.
Std double or single coned wheel nuts are BSF head sized, though I
think the thread is UNF (very vague on that, I may be thinking of the
Mag-Star lugs). Other than that and the fact that car mostly used
Posidrive, not Phillips, headed screws, the car is UNF and UNC
throughout.

Thanks . I've been hauling a Posidrive screwdriver around in my tool box
since 1972 ,. I knew I would need it one day . Posidrive
was a British GKN " improved Phillips" type screw head . It became a world
beater , just like Beta max and 8 track tapes !
Cheers

You tap it off.
Hitting the outer end orthogonally to the axle works to loosen it; keep
turning it 90 degrees and hit again (not massive blows).
The flange is ok method, use a long drift to get in to it.
Yes, the Rover book says things like "offer up the gearbox to the engine,
being carfeul to not load the gearbox input shaft" when it weighs 60kg and
you can't see a thing and there is no room...
