P6Bs are ballasted.

It is er questionable that Rover spent a lot of time getting the coil just right - I get a Jap coil and the starting improves... have one on the TC and the SC.  I'd say they used whatever Lucas supplied.

Nothing beats a properly sorted/maintained/adjusted OEM system.
After all, the manufacturer has spent far more R&D $$$$'s than we mere 
mortals will ever have in developing the system in the first place!
