The later Rover V8 gear boxes are known as R380 and used in TVR, Morgan,
Landrover, DAF Freight Rover. They are stronger  and smoother in the gear
change but you need a non 4WD version for your 3500. I am still looking for
a second hand one of these. There is more info on this link,

Though the SD1 box has that reputation, Scott, it was
used by TVR in the Griffiths and Chimaeras in the
early 1990s with few problems. It was handling 230bhp
to 340bhp so couldn't be too bad. Swarf was the big
enemy of reliability so the TVR boys recommend a
magnetic sump plug and frequent oil changes.

Used in Landies as well. The later boxes were
strengthened by Rover. If you're looking for one
Roger, the box is also known as an LT77.
