i would go for the ultimate P4 , the dash of the pre-1960 is very nice  
, all wood , no padding .
fit disc brakes and  if you prefer the look of twin SU's go for  a 105 
engine and if you can live with a single carburetter a 3 litre.

roversnorth  has complete 2.25 petrol engines if you want to make into 
a quasi-"80"

   Yes, a 90 or 105 would make a nice conversion. I also suggested to 
the restorer that a 6-cylinder car was more likely to be restored. It 
sounds as though the existing specification may have some sentimental
