[ROVERNET - UK] P4 on EBay/ Happy Turkey day

Dirk Burrowes dirk at vy-tek.com

Hi Joe,

First Happy Turkey day to all!

I have been watching the P4 on EBay as well through the 2 auctions now. It
looks like a nice car and would most likely be OK. From the P4s I have
purchased and seeing what they are selling for in this condition I would say
that a high price would be between 5k to 6k and an average selling price for
this condition around 3.5k to 4.5k A good deal would be around 3k.

The leak is most likely a rear main seal so it will be some work to fix this
however he does make the comment that it stops when the car gets cold so it
could also be a oil filter body or sump leak which would be much easier to
correct.

If you purchase the car I am sure all on the net will want more details and
pictures so keep us updated.

Rover Regards,
Dirk

My cr has since been repainted and I no longer have the coachlines...They
sure did look like a stripe applied with a paint wheel or similar...If I
recall they ended with a short point at either end. I think they were about
half inch from the stainless trim.

Anyway, in the USA, these aluminum pieces are often left off when the
car is repainted. This and along with the absence of the coachline down
the side of the body are typically indications that the car has been
repainted.

Anyone else have thoughts on these added bits on the bottoms of the fenders?

I thought it was just a dodgy rust repair when I first saw it on my car; my
old RHD series 1 never had them and they do look a bit like an afterthought.

On the subject of coachlines can I ask some one with an original car or
access to the specs to tell me how far above the trim strips they were
painted? They look to have been painted on by an old fashioned coach painter
with a lining brush and a straight edge going by the few photos I have seen.
Some how I think this might be skill not found in the average body shop in
this day and age...

Dear friends of the ring,

thanks for your kind and useful informations.
I'll tell my coachbuilder to use a satin paint for the sills and for the
bottom edge of the front fender.

At the end, I'll send you some more photos.

Thanks again.

Best regards, Gianluca.

Just to add a final note of confusion to this interesting discussion, one of
our club members, Gordon Morrison, has had his P6B's sills done in chrome;
the car also has wire wheels.

The overall appearance is very smart. Gordon has owned the car since new and
I must confess to coveting it on every occasion that I see it. Kent could
confirm that this is not a real sin as I am not coveting the owner's wife or
donkey! Theologically though, I see myself as on shaky ground, so will back
off on this point.

I have some photos of the car taken at the 2004 Perth Rove if a member wants
to see the effect of chrome sills.

All the best with your sills, Gianluca.

Don't know about price, but do know from experience, that rust free or
minimal rust is quite common in Oregon & Washington. A friend that
dismantles and parts out Porsche 912's tells me that cars from this area are

better than California cars in this regard.
