Eric,
Say, you were brushed or a near miss. Even better knocked down or ran over 
and have it catch your shirt as an example. I did not make this up, it has 
been the accepted rational for some time. It went in with many other safety 
regulations imposed for the 1968 model year. Items such as padded dashes 
(ugly on 1968-71 MGB's). reduced chrome appointments in the interiors, etc. 
Also the very early set of smog items. I remember how disappointed when I 
picked up my new 1968 Chrysler 300. What a change from the 1967 interior.
