[ROVERNET - UK] RE: rovernet Digest, Vol 35, Issue 8

Hi Kent,

Well Ben has agreed an attempt at taking out the tank so that would at least
let me run the car and better diagnose the transmission problem. Do you know
whether the windscreen is the same in a P5/P5b coupe to a P5 saloon?
James Dean has a parts car but it is a coupe. By the way I am in Mass.

If the bumpers you have are OK and just need a few bumps and twists fixed
then rechromed I am interested. Let me know what you need to get for them.
I can arrange shipment.

I think half the fun of owning a Rover is looking for parts and the
satisfaction eventually bolting them on. The other half is working on Lucas
electrical systems.

Thanks
Dirk

Hi Dirk
You don't say where you are located, I'm on Prince Edward Island,
Canada, approx 500 k/ms from Calais Maine. I can probably help with gas tank
and auto trans, have both, they are still installed on 1963 Mk1A. Distance
and costs of shipping however will make me an absolute last resort. I'm no
longer able to carry out work such as trans removal, so you would need to do
that yourself.
Bumpers will be difficult and expensive especially the rear, glass maybe
too.
                                      Regards Ben

Hi Dirk,
The windscreen could be a problem. I don't have a spare. Chris Devlin
in San Diego is parting out a Mk. II but I don't know where you are or
how to go about shipping glass. I'm not even sure the windscreen in
that car is good. I have broken two screens trying to get them out of
parts cars and I need to replace the rubber on my Mk. III and the Coupe
but hesitate to try another removeal. I'm really slow with taking stuff
off the parts cars... Unlike Ben, it's more a matter of having time. I
do have some bumpers, but they will need to be straightened and chromed.
The rear bumper is very dear these days...available new from Wadhams
for a small fortune. If the Mk. I tank is the same, I have one of
those, but it's still in the car and I don't know it's condition.

The transmission must be more of a problem than I thought. Even after a
good rebuild, the in-car adjustments are critical.

I'm in West Texas. Where are you?

Roveremotely,
Kent K.

Kent, Dirk

I spoke to Chris Devlin today and asked him what he does and doesn't have so
here is his list.

No front wind screen
Rear bumper and overriders (needs work)
No front bumper etc.
No gas tank
Do have BW 35
Have a set of MkIII front wings

Chris also said that he gave his Mk III front and rear windscreens to Fritz
but doesn't know if he moved them to Arkansas with him. His widow may know
and if they are available, she probably would like to get rid of them.

Tom

I've got a front screen if you get stuck but am in UK so not sure how you'd
get on for shipping.

Alan,
It would be, except I just replaced the valley tray and I'm in the
process of moving house. Guess which car is still at the old house :)

As usual, all of the help I get from the Rovernet is truly priceless.
Just wanted to thank everyone who provided input about pulling and
reinstalling the V8 engine. I think I've got enough confidence to go
forward.

Just remember you have Rover's usual generous clearances when doing the
engine lift ie. about 3mm...
