[ROVERNET - UK] Volvo Steering rack on SD1

As far as I am aware the first 164 sold in Australia did not have P/S standard,
but it either became standard or was optional. In any event it was a ZF unit,
and a box, not a rack and pinion. I am told it is the same box Mercedes-Benz
used in its "Compact <230/50/80>" range in the late 1960's (?). 
I have been told this  ZF unit can be fitted to a P5, but have never been able
to trace the person who was rumoured to have done this. Doubt it would take a
lot of engineering though
