[ROVERNET - UK] P5b's again

Hi Dirk,
Bill Osmond, who is not far from Toronto, has a badly rusted P5B saloon
that needs a "body transplant" and it MAY be for sale. I got the
impression it was a car he was storing for someone else and upon which
he had first refusal. His last email indicated that it was too much of
a project for him. The "body transplant" is not as stupid as it sounds,
since the P5 Mk.III body shell is identical to the V8's. I parted out
my first P5B Coupe (it was worse than Chris') and considered
transplanting the front subframe and front wings to the engineless P5
Mk. III saloon that I have. If I can't find a decent Mk. III engine, I
may still do that. I offered the Mk. III to Bill and also to Chris
Devlin. Bill declined for logistical reasons and Chris got a saloon
shell from Alvin to which he intends to graft his Coupe cowl, roof and
"D" posts. My Mk. III was sold new in Texas and has only surface rust,
so should be restored in some fashion. If anyone is brave enough to try
the Mk. III to V8 conversion, I can point out some of the difficulties,
but coupe to coupe or saloon to saloon there are not too many as long as
you have a complete V8 car to start with. I personally would not
sacrifice a good Mk. III just to build a V8, but if anyone is of that
mindset, please save the Mk. III engine and trans (stick or auto) for me.

Rovereconstructedly,
Kent K.
