By any remote chance, are the floats in the carbs leaking, thus losing 
buoyancy?  You could easily check them by immersing briefly in hot water and 
watching for bubbles.  If leaking, open one hole after marking the others 
with pins, and reseal with solder after emptying them.  That will get you by 
until you replace them with new ones.......Just a guess.......Ian Potts
