[ROVERNET - UK] P6 transmission

Hi Alan,

I would NOT try to put a TR7 transmission in your Rover. I like the 4 speed
and I think that it would change the car to much. I was on EBay a few weeks
ago and a guy in Canada says he has a completely rebuilt 4 speed for a P6
and it did not sell even with a buy it now price of $159. The listing number
is 7985203168. I would buy it and be done with it and enjoy your car.
If that is a bust I think I have an extra one I can dig up for you.

Good luck!
Dirk

Hello Rovernetters

news from the BBC this AM says a deal was reached with Nanjing? the #2
carmaker in China has bought assets of MG Rover (but not the Rover 75) for
undisclosed sum, and may provide jobs for about 2000 at Longbridge. More

Can anyone tell me if the TR7 5-speed would fit easily and work well in
a P6?

The original four speed box is getting noisier and am thinking that
rather than (another) re-build, I put in a 5-speed.

What is considered to be the best fit and match?

Alan Gale

I have that, a US Rover 3500S, with an SD1 5 Speed installed. They used a
2000 TC pedal box, and used the 2000TC Brake master, I suppose because the
space was getting pretty tight in that area. The shifter comes out in the
same place. I would suggest fitting dual exhausts, as on my car the stock
exhaust is close to the clutch slave. a shop in West Florida did a white one

about 10 years ago. They charged $5,000, and I think the owner supplied the
parts. It is a lot of labor. If you have an SD1 5speed and 2000TC Donor
cars, and a lot of time to do your own work, it should be a rewarding proje,

and of course, much cheaper.. If you pay a shop to do everything, it might
be cheaper to buy my car. In any case I can supply photos, if you decide to
do your car. Contact me offline jaguru at bellsouth.net James Dean
