Talk about lucky! P3's bring good luck you know!
running rich is main cause of black smoke. they tend to need to run a bit 
rich. I have just done a total engine rebuild on my P3 and the carb 
adjustment screws are very worn making adjustment not as gradual as one 
would like. After you try adjusting the carb, check the screws. I am looking 
for better ones without much luck so far.
